Rob's Teaching Philosophy and Mission...
EXPANDING THE OPPORTUNITIES AND ENRICHING THE LIVES OF DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING INDIVIDUALS BY PROVIDING QUALITY GOLF INSTRUCTION IN AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR FUTURE ENJOYMENT, PERSONAL GROWTH AND UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES PLAYING THE GAME OF GOLF.
ASL GOLF instruction is not a system. It is not about teaching one way to swing a golf club. This is about the “easiest” way to play golf and swing the golf club. I recognize that everyone is different, and different bodies produce different swings. There is not a blueprint for how, just fundamentals that allow for the individual to make their most efficient golf swing! ASL GOLF is about teaching each player the easiest way to reach potential that they did not think possible.
First, must come a solid fundamental base from which the swing is produced. A solid foundation is necessary to any successful athletic motion. From this base the player can then begin to craft a swing based on their own physical characteristics. The student then must grasp the basics of the golf swing. The “basics” is a simple understanding that the golf swing is an athletic motion that moves most efficiently on a specific angle. This angle is best determined through analysis of the golfer’s physical capabilities and body structure.
Once learning has taken place the student must then discover how to play. This is a common neglected part of the teaching process. My years as a Touring Professional playing against the best players in the world gives me deep insight into the problems that exist in getting the most from your golf game. I can draw upon years of practical experience and assist the player in making the jump from practice to play. I also understand the importance pitching, chipping and putting play in a successful player’s golf game. My goal is to make everyone a well rounded player, sound in swing and efficient in scoring with the short game.
Until now Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals may have thought it impossible to get understandable quality golf instruction. Now with ASL GOLF the player gets the information necessary to improve in Sign Language direct from the professional. I look forward to teaching in ASL and watching kids learn this awesome game and go on to do great things on the golf course and hopefully some even on the PGA TOUR. If you just want to learn to play so that you can spend time with friends or to enjoy the beauty of golf, whether at Pebble Beach or just on a Saturday morning at your local golf course, I am excited about working with you and helping you get the greatest pleasure out of your time!!!! Together we can reach your goals. If you are ready to learn, I am ready to work with you…………
United States Deaf Golf Camps
In the spring of 2004 a bold plan was developed and implemented that would bring top quality golf education to deaf children all over the country completely in American Sign Language. The United States Deaf Golf Camps launched their first camp, the Southern Deaf Golf Camp, in Pensacola, FL at the Marcus Pointe Golf Club with 15 children in attendance. The enthusiasm and excitement of the golfers led to the rapid expansion of the plan for a nationwide system of events for deaf youth.
By the end of the 2005 schedule the camps will have introduced almost 300 deaf children to the game of golf at nine various sites. These camps teach deaf children the fundamentals of golf while also instilling in them the values inherent in the game. Each camp provides scholarships through corporate and private donations that allow each student to attend at no personal expense to them or their families. This gives unlimited access to the game to any deaf child interested in learning. Rob Strano is the lead instructor for the camps and has developed a "visual and feel" teaching program that feeds the positive learning methods of these new players...Read More

The “P.E.G” Program is designed to introduce the game of golf into the PE programs and meet the goal of offering a new opportunity never before offered to the deaf. Using FREE special Sign Language instruction packages, and FREE SNAG golf equipment, this program partners with the comprehensive instruction package offered at the United States Deaf Golf Camps. These programs impact all students at every level teaching them:
